We are getting closer to our Aug 7 grand opening of the much awaited BMX track at Dwight Merkel Sports Complex.

Soon we will start moving dirt around on the site and we could really use the extra help. Come and be part of the excitement as this world class park gets ready to open.

Here are some updated Pics of JABMX! (September).

I was treading through the Joel Albi grounds. Here are a few shots. Click on images to enlarge.

Track site with dirt hill on left. Under the hill will be a storage container for compresser/starting gate and track storage.

- Things are coming along fine. Grass has been added in some spots. Lights for night games and race events and your safety have been added all around the sports complex. Some wrought iron fencing has been added and paved walk ways. Stay tuned!

BMX or Bicycle Motocross is currently the fastest growing sport in North America AND is now an Olympic Sport! A typical race around a BMX track lasts around 50 seconds, over jumps, whoop 'd doo's and fast paced burm's. Putting a rider against 7 other riders going for the FINISH and the Gold!

Races begin with a voice activated start, with lights on a hydraulic starting gate.

Who will i Race?

Unlike other sports, BMX offers three proficiencies per age: Novice, Intermediate and Expert. This structure ensures that the riders will consistently encounter the fairest level of competition, while always being challenged as age change and riders move from class to class.

It's easy to get involved!

Most bikes can be outfitted for BMX. This includes the beginner bike with smaller 20" wheels or the 24" - 26" mountain bike with gears.

As you watch a full weekend of BMX racing, you will notice the many makes and sizes people use with dirt track racing. Most race bikes are customized for better handling and weight. Feel free to ask BMX questions, most racers and parents are friendly and would love to help.

You may notice that the complex is closed and fenced off. They ask to please stay clear of the construction site. You may get run over by a earth mover.

If you need in the back hills, try zipping through the grave yard. Please respect the grounds.

The last meeting was a blast, meeting the Track Designer, John David from ABA. The crew from Cherry Hill Bmx and a few hardcore BMX wing-nuts. We all took a stroll to the track site and drooled over all the cool additions. Fencing, Night Lights, Storage, RV hook-ups and plenty of parking. Thanks to Tim Arnold, you rock dude..

With the amount o space, this top-notch track, RV hook-ups, etc. This Spokane track is in the league for a possible US National in the future. Keep posted.
